Market Competition
Competition plays an important role in the Medicare Advantage (MA) market. MPI’s work focuses on the impact of evolving market dynamics, such as increased market consolidation and vertical integration, on the cost, quality, and availability of MA plans. MPI’s work on this topic examines the role of smaller and regional plans on market competition, and trends in various ownership arrangements, plan entry and exit, and geographic variation in plan availability. Additional work examines the effect of legislative and regulatory policy changes on competition within Medicare Advantage and with traditional Medicare, and the implications for beneficiaries and federal spending.
